Principal and Director

John's career started in Foreign Affairs where he took the opportunity in the Diplomatic Service and was posted to Jakarta.  From there he worked in the Law Reform Division at the then Department of Justice.

John has been practising in Upper Hutt since 1986 and started his private practice in 1992. From being a sole practitioner John has steadily grown his firm.  Earlier this year Fiona Butland who has worked for the firm since 2002 bought into the business.  He and Fiona are now Directors and Shareholders.  The firm now employs two legally qualified staff and four support staff. 

John's specialisations are litigation in Criminal Law, Family Law and General Civil Law and he has taken cases through the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

As an ongoing member of the Upper Hutt Chamber of Commerce since 1989, John was President from 1999 through to 2001.  He is currently an Upper Hutt City Councillor and the Council representative on the Board of Experience Upper Hutt.  He is also Upper Hutt's elected representative on the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust.

John is married with four girls and a dog.  He enjoys DIY around the house, plays the piano and is a Hurricanes supporter.
